I wanted a metal detector that I could use to find coins, jewelry and gold. I saw a commercial on TV about Whites metal detectors. I did some research on the White's web site and decided on the White's XLT metal detector.
It had preprogrammed settings for coins, jewelry, relics, gold and automatic ground balance. Everything I wanted in a metal detector and more. Very easy directions how to use all the settings. The first day I received my XLT I took it outside to my front yard to try it out. I put it on the preprogrammed setting for coins and right away I found a penny.
The first year I had used my XLT I found $262.03 in coins, 3 rings, keys and different metal toys. It came with a Slide-in Nicad Battery System. You can get up to 15 hrs. of power-packed metal detector hunting on a single charge. It also uses 8 AA batteries that gets about 20 hrs. of metal detecting. I used my XLT when I went prospecting for gold. I have a sluice box I use and decided to take my XLT with me. I used the preprogrammed setting for prespecting and after an hour of using it and finding nothing, I put it down.
My son started to use it and after awhile he found a nugget the size of a BB. My whole family has enjoyed using the XLT. After my wife had used it a few times, she wanted one. She bought the Whites MXT and loves it. I would recommend my XLT to anyone that wants a metal detector that is easy to use and alot of fun.

The learning curve is a bit steep with the White's XLT, but there is good help on the internet forums, and White's is there for me too!
White's has replaced a manual for me which has been invaluable in helping me to understand the use of my White's XLT. The replacement manual was free and that fact has impressed me that they want to be there for White's Metal Detector owners.
I have been enjoying success hunting for pre-civil war and late 1800 artifacts including Minie balls and other relics from what I perceive to be 1854 - 1860 pre-civil war encampment here in the eastern Kansas area where the Jayhawkers originated and other skirmishes are known to have occured.
Within 30 miles of my home, I can detect the location of General Price's bivouac where General Alfred Pleasantan's troops attacked General Sterling Price's troops in a pre-dawn attack which sent the confederate forces scrambling southward on that fateful day in 1864 which eventually gave rise to the "Battle of Mine Creek" in the last major confederate push in the Trans-Mississippi era of the Civil War. Even closer were other skirmishes which pre-date the Civil War.
With John Brown's Pottawatomie Massacre around fifteen miles away as well as the famed Marais De Cygne Massacre "immortalized by the poet John Greenleaf Whittier" being just a few miles from where I work, it is nice to have a quality metal detector such as the White's XLT to provide the depth and accuracy needed to be successful. With many historical accounts from the era, and having a quality machine such as the XLT, I have also found a renaissance of my love of American history.
White's Metal Detectors, my hat's off to you!

I have two metal detectors a Whites XLT and a Fisher Gold Strike. I have had the Gold Strike since 2002 and have had the XLT since Feb. of 2004. I got the XLT from right here on Kellyco.
So far I have found around $30 in just coins with the XLT, someday it will pay for itself but I would say the best thing I have found would be a 18K gold wedding band that was found 3 years ago with the XLT. Also that same day in the same lot I found my oldest coin yet, a 1891 penny, but I didn't even know I had a gold ring until I cleaned it up, it was pitch black and took steel wool to clean it up.
Just last weekend I found my first non-US coin, a 20-cent Mexican coin. I have found about 5 wheaties so far. I like this XLT because it's really easy to use, more or less just push and go, no messing with ground balancing what so ever. I also like the I.D. feature and most of the time it is right, heck more then one time it even added the money. Like for instance I got a target and it read 50 cents and when I dug it up it was 2 quarters side by side. YES I would recommend this detector to anyone, I have been trying to get my dad to get one since I got mine because he has a older Whites and after he sent if off to get repaired it came back sounding all weird, that and it seems he has battery problems. I love my XLT and will always enjoy detecting with it.

The White's XLT took coin shooting from an occasional experience to a weekly excursion in enjoyment!
The light-weight detector, and its easy to use display operation enabled me to want to get outdoors and enjoy what may be the most ecological hobby there is. The excitement of never knowing what you may find, and the reliability of steady discoveries is what made the White's XLT a steady partner in detecting. The beauty of the XLT is that it is a click and go detector. Turn it on, and follow the steps displayed for just about any condition or terrain. Soon after discovering the ease and reliability of the XLT, one begins to realize that it has a lot more to offer than just ease of use.
That is when user begins to understand the true capabilities of the machine. With its Pro features, and adjustments, (tied with Jimmy Sierra's instructional video, and a decent respect for reading the manual) the XLT will conform to the most difficult conditions with considerable ease. For the novice user and the weathered pro, the White's XLT is still a top of the line detector with the end-user's enjoyment designed right in the machine. That is why an XLT is still tops in the industry.
