I’ve been metal detecting close to 30 years. For years White’s electronics detectors have always bee my detector of choice for coin hunting (I also nugget shoot here in northern California, and while White’s makes a great machine, I use the Minelab Eureka Gold for that, but I cut my nugget teeth on the Goldmaster series), especially the White’s XLT series of detectors. When I started using a digital style detector, the XLT was actually the eagle I believe....ANYWAY, I’ve been using the XLT for years and have owned several. I’ve never been disappointed with one, and use it exclusively for coin hunting. I’ve been in White’s electronics "best finds" 4 times, all for finds with the XLT. My last find was a $5000 18K heavy men’s yellow gold and diamond ring with a total of 4 carats of diamonds in it at about 14" deep. I bought a new XLT and decided to try it out in my front yard. I turned on the coin and jewelry preset program and began to sweep. The third target I dug, right next to an old box elder tree was the ring. Anyway, in my opinion, its the best coin/jewelry detector on the market (it does come in second though to my White’s 6000 di pro sl though for depth accuracy, pinpointing, and ID though, but the 6000 is discontinued and has been for years).

This is the story of a widow, a Metal detecting widow. No I'm not married and have never felt that kind of loss but this is how I feel once the snow melts, let me explain. When I meet my boyfriend it was winter and I had no idea of his hobby. Soon I started seeing signs, I would call and there was no answer. I would drive by and no one had been there. What was going on I thought it was over till he started calling back to say what he found. I really did not get it. He informed me I was going to go with him to some old field and we where going to go metal detecting. WHAT?? I showed up at his house and he pulled out a drawer full of finds, mostly scrap I thought old dinky cars, metal rings, little bits of everything. Then he pulled out a drawer full of coins pennies, to dollars I was shocked. We went out that afternoon with his White’s XLT detector. It had been used so much it has black tape holding on the display head and his headphones don't go in bracket no more. He showed me all the features from pictures of item in ground to how the different tones to metal content. We found a few dollars that day and off we went home. He was pretty quiet on that ride and I felt maybe I invaded his private time. The next day at work I told the guys what I had spent my day of doing, most just ignored me and some quietly asked how it worked. I thought I was nuts how could I like something that requires me to spend an entire day for a couple bucks. Well, I got my answer that night when my boyfriend said he wanted to show me something else he's found. Under the couch in little separate trays was treasure, not so much in value but in finds. There where a few rings and chains and old coins that I couldn't believe there shape. He told me how he metal detected for years and he goes everyday loosing track of time most days. He asked me if I wanted to join him and I could even get my own. After a few weeks, I discovered I really liked the sport. It was outside and fun. The White’s proves to me to be a favorite for depth and since I was new I liked how simply it was to use. I rented a lot of detectors that summer. I was in Ontario at a little detector rental shop when I found one I liked and came home and ordered it from Kellyco. I also found out quickly to research your detector carefully. Mine is very basic and doesn't have the features of the XLT and I often find we use both detectors to verify finds. But for a starting detector I am finding I can keep up with him and no longer a metal detecting WIDOW.

Well, after meeting a gentleman in a restaurant who was wearing a White’s hat and starting up a conversation with him, I soon researched all he told me about this great hobby and wound up purchasing an XLT from Kellyco.
I told my friends who thought I was crazy, but were intrigued with the prospect of finding lost treasure. The first place I decided to try out my XLT was across the street from my x-wife's house. Eighteen years ago as we were a part company i.e. getting a divorce my kids told me an incident that happened soon after. In a blind rage, the X hurled all the gold jewelry I had ever given her across the street into a vacant lot.
I always remembered this story so when I got my XLT set up, I figured I go back to this lot and see what I could uncover. I started a search in the area my sons said they thought most of the jewelry landed and almost at once I got a positive reading on my readout for a gold ring.
As I started to dig, the neighbor called to me and asked that I please stop what I was doing and not continue until I spoke with the owner of the property. I agreed and a few days later I introduced myself to the lady who owns the property. She agreed to let me continue my search in the spring so I'm ready to resume my hunt for Lost Treasure.
It's just a matter of time before I find those lost gold rings. Won't the ex be happy then?
