Got it at Christmas, waiting for spring to try it out. It seems like it should be a good detector, many features for a very good price. I hope I can find some interesting treasures with it. I'm hoping to use it at the beach and in parks around town.

The REASON FOR THE BOUNTY HUNTER LONE STAR? A spur of the moment splurge in a sporting store. I was in the market for one and was thinking seriously about getting a MD for the fun of it. I saw this one as a left over Christmas promotion.

THE FEATURES: For a novice like me I was thrilled when got it home and assembled in less than 15 minutes and a very quick glance at the book and controls I thought I was ready. I went to the yard and knew there were pennies everywhere from the previous owners. I turned the unit on and set it for all metals. Soon I found some scrap aluminum. Then a penny, then more pennies, I set it to discriminate all the metal but coins.

In less than 30 minutes hunting I had collected close to 25 coins, Wowwwwww! Then to the park and in no time picked up some scrap, a few pop tops, some coins, then a ring no less. On my second try at using this amazing machine, with no formal instruction. The wife was watching and laughing at me digging like an animal in the dirt on the playground. After picking a few more coins I gave it to her. She never has had a MD in her hands till that moment, on with the headphones and walked about 15 paces and picked up an old toy ring . She is hooked I had to go and get another MD now so both of us could be out in the fresh air and enjoy a new hobby together

We went together at an old fair grounds from what I could remember when a kid . She took the Bounty Hunter and I took the Ace, in just a few steps she had a 25 cent piece, me nothing , anther few feet and she had a couple of pop tops. Then it was my turn , a penny spotted with the ACE.. All in all it was a good day in the park for both of us , me with some time on the Bounty Hunter and using the ACE and her with no experience using the Bounty Hunter for the second time.
EASE of use, it was just described. For the beginner, turn it on and start detecting no settings, only a LCD showing what the item is, where? Very easy to PP using the X method. Very precise and on the dot location and usually its what the LCD says it is.

At the beginning it was an entry level detector for me at a nominal cost. It is a full feature (at least I think so as a beginner) ONLY an experienced hunter would want to tweak the dials to get more out of it knowing what they are looking for. As time goes on we will be the more experienced and tweaking to get the most out of it, Right now its perfect for the wife.

This is a very light easily carried ergonomically designed unit for anyone to use. I have now the ACE 250 for which most consider a great machine. But the wife can out find more than me with the Bounty Hunter
Being new to the hobby, and a new novice but finding what has been found in a short time by both of us and the wife being even new at it than me I would have to give this machine a good strong 4 stars, not really knowing what a 5 star machine would be.

Recommend it to someone, a very strong yes for someone wanting a low priced first time machine. A very good one at that!

I have been detecting for approx 4 years, and the Bounty Hunter Lone Star was my second detector. Given the time I have to spend detecting and the sites available, I chose a reasonable detector with nice features. I started out on playgrounds and raked in the coins and a few pieces of nice jewelry.

At the time of purchase, this detector had features that other brands carried only on higher end units. I greatly appreciated the upgrade from the my previous detector. The controls are easy to manipulate and understand. With a little trial and error using the features and scanning technique, it was easy to learn when to dig and when to move on.

I like hunting relics and coins, and this detector works great. With a few distinguishing passes, you can determine jewelry from junk, and coins from cans. I have found some interesting settler sites and pieces from horse buggies. It is easy enough to use for a beginner. Yet has the features to make it desirable to an intermediate user.

This detector has what it takes to keep your interest, and will not just gather dust. And if you choose to upgrade later, you will probably still want to keep this one around - for playing, practice and fun. It is also a durable unit with an adjustable shaft that would make a great gift for a new hunter.

I picked up mine with a Kellyco package that included a nice bag. I have found this to be very useful in keeping the unit safe while traveling. It also has pockets and room for a few necessary tools and pouches for the finds.

I rate this Metal Detector a five for Fun, Features, and Finds!

Having over 38 years of metal detecting experience still did not prepare me for the surprise I received the first I took the Bounty Hunter Lone Star out for a spin.

I started out in the early 70's with a Sears Ted Williams (Coinmaster) that I used until 2002 when I retired it for a more advanced model. Just a few months ago, I was scanning through a classified ad and saw a Bounty Hunter Lone Star listed for $35.

I sure couldn't pass that deal up, even though I was kind of skeptical of the manufacturer and its performance. This little machine seemed like a toy when comparing material quality to my other detectors. The rods don't have cam-locks and have some wiggle in them and the coil wire connection is a push plug but overall it's sturdy enough, light and well balanced.

This detector has a 8-1/2" spider coil, three modes of operation, all-metal, disc and auto-notch and a 6 segment visual target ID. It also has a three tone audio ID in disc and auto-notch modes. I had become tired of digging corroded zinc cents with my other units but was able to ID these with their mid-tone signal and visual ID.

When I performed a bench trial against my other units the depth was only 1/2" to 1" less on some targets and just a deep on others. Ranges were 5" on dimes and small jewelry to 7" on quarters and large gold jewelry. Even though the unit has now pin-point feature target location is easy using a quick X-ing motion of the coil.

The signal response is sharp and signal recovery speed is very quick, a plus for hunting in high trash areas. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. This unit performed very well for a detector that retails for around $150, and would be a great beginners unit. Picking it up for $35 was a steal. I even made my best find with it, a 14K, 1/3 carat princess cut diamond ring.
