I upgraded to a Pioneer 505 from Tracker IV (also by Bounty Hunter). But my 1st metal detector was an old BH 'Red Baron' from a garage sale. Bounty Hunter makes VALUE Machines. Real working detectors with the money spent on great circuits & filters, not flashy displays & digital Eye Candy. The Pioneer 505 gave me the increased signal strength for the depth that I wanted & paid for. Additionally, the detailed target information was beyond my belief! The new machine I bought, the Pioneer 505, could now even tell a new style 1983 zinc cent from a 1981 pure copper cent! With the Push Button "Auto Notch" setting, it automatically eliminates nearly all pull tabs & pop can lid signals while happily reporting dimes & quarters lurking within the soil. The included DVD guide shows how to use the adjustable settings for coin shooting (though lacking reference to best seek lost gold objects).
The 505 is a powerful metal detector capable of locating & IDing valuable targets at 8" or more depth. I got the best results using Disc mode after learning how the tones respond to different metals. And once I learned the 'GOOD' sounds, & relating them to the meters, I could identify over 80% of my targets before digging them up! Within 2 weeks, I was yielding less than 10% trash & had found my 1st Silver coin & ring (The 505 loves silver !). Within 2 more weeks, I found another silver ring, an 07 dime, 1919 silver half peso, & $28 in change.
Now, with 4 months of searching since the upgrade, my finds include 6 Silver rings, more than 4 Silver coins, 2 Kennedy Half Dollars (one is 1976 Bicentennial), 72 Eisenhower Dollar, 3 Silver Catholic Medals, and a 0.30 Oz 14k GOLD St Christopher medal (worth over $240 alone).
Great way to exercise AND get paid for it... "DOC" Jim R.

There are a lot of differences from the old White's DB4 I started out using. I have been able to find a lot having lived near many historical sites in MA. One touch menu on the detector tells you where you are and how the machine is set up as opposed to some that are so complicated. I have tried some with one touch but I needed the manual with me to tell me how it was set up. The 505 is more of an ON and GO machine. The sensitivity is stable on every site I have visited. The only feature that would be good is if it could tell you who dropped the treasure and when...LOL...Spend time at library and do your history, interview seniors in your area to find out where picnic areas were and carnivals held. If you are looking for silver coins, you have to be area used in the silver era. You will not be disappointed with this machine.

I recently bought a Minelab outfit and love it!! To start off, I didn't know what end to use if someone had given me one to look at. Now after a few months, I've got the hang of it and love every chance to use it.
Thanks Kellyco!

I really enjoy this detector! Easy to get set up and going. I've used it on my yard a couple weekends ago and had found 3 quarters, 1 dime, 5 pennies, and an old spoon in an old garden area. I can't wait to start going out to other areas (with permission of course) and see what this detector can do. Five stars for this detector!!!

I have been using this detector for a couple months. I find it very easy to use. To date I have found lots of coins some from other countries. I have found one gold hoop earring and one diamond earring (may be fake). I am still looking for a really good treasure. Since we have water all around I would like to upgrade to a detector that can go under water. But on land this detector is great.
