I started out metal detecting because I had a heart attack and needed to get out and get some exercise. I hated just walking around, with nothing to do but walk.I saw a commercial on TV for White's metal detectors and decided that might be a fun way to get exercise.

So I bought a Minelab Musketeer Advantage detector. I didn't find too much for about a month, but once I learned the detector I started finding all kind of things, old coins, jewelry, knives. I found a whole lot of Buffalo nickels with the Musketeer Advantage for some reason, I have never found so many buffalo nickels with any other detector. It was like it was made for finding them.Over the 2 years I owned the Advantage I found 32 Buffalo nickles that detector was like a buffalo nickel magnet.

There are no led screens or anything like that,it is a very plain looking detector, but it works great for finding coins and relics. It would be a perfect detector if it was lighter weight,it`s not outrageously heavy but could be a bit lighter. The Musketeer Advantage found some really deep targets, one was this round thing it was about the size of a quarter it had an old woman with a cat with his back arched on it.

I posted it online and was told it was a button from a dress from the 1800`s ,anyways it was way down I was up to my elbow but the time I got to it.I would say approx. 14" when I first pulled it out I thought it was an old coin, but after cleaning it saw it wasn't.

The Minelab Musketeer Advantage is one great detector, easy to learn and use. Within a short 15 minutes you'll be finding coins in any school playground. It has easy to use controls with out the glitzy bells and whistles of most complicated programmable high end detectors. Talk about power, it goes deep!!! Especially in highly mineralized soils like I encountered while living in Georgia that could penetrate without loosing much depth. It was one of only a few detectors that matched or exceeded performance of many high end detectors.

I liked the Musketeer so much I owned two of them, the Advantage and Advantage Pro.
Sadly I sold them, thought the grass was greener on the other side. Always came back to the Musky. Currently own the 1994 grass roots Musky--The Sterling with the newer 8" Advantage coil as well as the Kellyco 5" EXcelerator. The small coil works wonders in trashy areas and goes about as deep as the 8".

Over the years, I have found piles of coins and relics with the Musky. You will really be amazed with the Musky, an underrated detector.

I have started a Yahoo user group "The Minelab Musketeers". It currently is the largest repository of Musketeer info on the web.

Within a few weeks I'll have another Musketeer to hunt with. Really is one detector you always seem to come back to.

If you want to have fun, get a Musketeer!

I had been looking for a low khz detector because the lower the kiloherz the deeper it will find coins and the less it will be affected by ground minerals. Also, I wanted a DD search coil because the DD coil handles mineralization better and I knew a ground balance was also a must to get extra depth. I was interested in the Ground Hawk but it only has one coil and no DD. Anyway, all my criteria was met in the Minelab Musketeer 5khz DD coils a nice 7 3/8" and 10"" a preset and manual ground balance all metal and discrimination for the 1st time I was able to peg a dime at 8" with no problem and that’s with the small coil. I even got a dime at 10" deep in ground and my ground has black sand in it and you can feel the quality in everything on this detector. I can say that I’m spoiled now.

It goes deep and it is easy to use. It will find the good stuff that some of the high end detectors do. For anyone who wants to start out detecting, this is the right detector to start with. For the price and the performance, I think you can't go wrong with it. So far, I have found about $400.00 in coins and I am very pleased with how it works for me. It's easy to tune and for right out of the box it is one of the best I've have ever come across for a beginner.
