My brother and I are avid coin shooters with our Garrett GX Plus. When I was six years old our parents used to give us a quarter for the movies, popcorn, and a coke. That's right, I'm an antique. We lived in S.E. Missouri near the Mississippi River in the flood plane area where the soil is called "Gumbo" and when it's dry it cracks and the cracks go way deep. Well, I dropped my quarter and it went down one of these cracks and we never recovered it. Last year (in July) My brother and I decided to go find that quarter that had been bothering me for over fifty years. We first went to our moms picture box and found a picture of the old house and surroundings in Canalloo, Missouri.
Armed with the picture, my Garrett Master Hunter and my brothers White's, we took off to Canalloo on a hot July morning. After obtaining permission from the farmer who still owned the land, we began our hunt. By comparing the picture to the landmarks, we were able to pinpoint where the old house had been. The whole area was now a field of tall green corn. What luck! We'll just go up and down each row until we hear that glorious sound! We searched each row and found several great artifacts like toy cars, cap guns, rouge case, and several other pieces of junk. After a few hours of criss-crossing we finally decided that the quarter was beyond our depth and we were ready for some cold refreshments.
My brother said "lets just go down one more row each, just for luck". Well, he started down one row and I took the next one, and low and behold, I got a strong coin signal on my Garrett. My hands were shaking as I started sifting the soil, listening for that clank! clank!. The clank was there and there it was; a quarter! I was so excited I danced the jig and whooped and hollered as my brother shared my excitement! I examined the quarter for the first time and ....wait a minute! 1987 was the date. My brother started laughing, and it hit me what had happened. I wished I'd had the right date my brother yelled over his shoulder as I chased him through that steamy corn field!

I gave my detector to my daughter a few years ago when my health wasn't to great, now that I'm feeling better I'm ready to go. Planning a trip out west to my daughters an do some searching with my old detector.

The Garrett CX Plus is intermediate to pro metal detector and runs about $600. This detector is very well built and an all around great detector. I’ve noticed that the CX Plus doesn't really specialize in one area of detecting, such as, coin shooting, jewelry or prospecting. It is great with all types of detecting. Some of the great features that the CX plus has is One Touch Operation, Automatic Ground Balance, Automatic Threshold Retuning, Non Motion Automatic Pinpointing, and Coin Depth Reading. The CX Plus has an LCD screen that has a kind of "meter" that shows what the detector is finding. Also, on the LCD screen is the All Metal mode and pinpointing. You operate the sensitivity and discrimination by knobs on the side of the detector.
What I like about this detector is the excellent amount of battery life that the detector has. You can use it all day with the battery meter going to only about 2 bars. Another notable feature of the CX Plus is the very advanced discrimination capabilities it has. I rarely dug a pull tab with this detector. With its great discrimination, I was able to easily pinpoint small objects like a button at around 9 inches. The 8.5 inch coil that comes stock with the CX plus is a great size and overall the CX Plus can take a beating and works well in every climate.
What I did not like about the CX Plus was that it does not have an arm cuff, so basically you can only use the detector by swinging your wrist, which can get a little uncomfortable. Other than this minor discomfort, I have no other complaints about this detector.
The CX Plus does the job and is a great buy for the amount it can do. I have to give the CX Plus 5 stars for its great discrimination capability and its great depth range!

The Garrett Muster Hunter CX Plus is the first detector I bought. My previous metal detecting experience was in the army during de-mining operations, using the Schiebel PSS-12 so I don't consider myself really experienced. I also bought 10" Crossfire supreme deep seeker coil, 10x14" PROformance Power DD coil and The Treasure Hound Depth Multiplier.
Up to now I have only used the 10" and the power DD coil. I am very satisfied both from the detector and the coils. I think it is a very good and reliable general purpose detector, (especially for the amount of money, someone gives to purchase it).
In the beginning, you must spend a lot of time on practice in order to get the best out of Master Hunter, but I think this is common for other detectors also. Once you get used to it, it works like a good and friendly hunting dog. During metal detecting, I was able to dig many small objects like coins bullets and other stuff from really good depths. I noticed that it works better with a rather slow search speed though. During my searches the Power DD coil was very helpful in use on not so good and heavily mineralized ground. The two knob discriminator also helped a lot on that.
The detector does very well on battery consumption. I only spend a set of batteries during 10 to 15 or more hunting trips. Finally, it is very easy to carry because it breaks to pieces that are very easy to fit in a bag or hang on the back.
As I mentioned before, I’m not very experienced, but I know for sure that Master Hunter must be between someone first choices in this cost range. This can be used in a variety of different kinds of field searches.

The Garrett CX Plus is a good detector. It works well and it is easy to use. Garrett has a good line of metal detector.
When I got my CX plus, I got the Hound Hunter extension and it works well finding all kinds of thing in the ground. Garrett CX plus is easy to Ground balance. The DVD that came with it tells how to use it and it easily to learn and give good direction on how to use it. I love it and the gold I plan to find with it.
