First, the Fisher ID Edge is awesome. I've used a CZ-6a for years but early experiences say that maybe the Edge fits my style of hunting better. I primarily hunt old home sites which are filled with iron trash - nails, melted metal, bottle caps, bolts, you name it. The Edge with the 6-inch coil seems to really pick its way between the bad targets and alert you to the good ones. Even with the small coil one of my first finds was a wheat cent at 7 inches. Another find in one of my first hunts was a Mercury dime that was up against a hearth stone inside an old house missing a lot of floor. The small coil gave me the ability to get close enough to the stone to locate the dime.

The Edge is easy to set up and ground balance. Auto ground balance consists of holding the GB button, raising the coil 6 inches off the ground and letting go of the button. If the Edge balances, you get a single tone. If not, you get three tones. It couldn't be any easier. Discrimination and sensitivity are both easily adjusted as is switching between all-metal mode and discrimination mode. In discrimination mode, I've only used the Old Coins program which meets my needs. The only thing I find awkward about the Edge is the depth indication. It's a 2-digit numerical readout - 99 is on top of the ground and the number decreases about 10 for each inch the target is in the ground. A user can become accustomed to it but it is a strange way to display depth.

All-in-all, the ID Edge is an extremely capable metal detector.
